The story behind the duo

Meet COAST

Based in Holly, Michigan, Jake Long and Stephen Michael accidentally formed COAST in summer 2025 while sharing a gig. Steve invited Jake to join him for a private party in Boyne City, where the hosts wanted “band energy but chill.” Set up on a patio beside a bonfire overlooking Lake Charlevoix, they played from sunset into the night for about a hundred people who welcomed them like old friends. It became the best gig they had ever played.

On the long drive home the next day, they agreed: “If every gig were a bonfire on a beach, life would pretty much be perfect. Why can’t we do that?” COAST grew from that question.

Before forming COAST, Steve—vocals and acoustic guitar—had tallied more than 1,000 bookings as a solo act and had been a full-time musician since 2018. Jake—drum kit and cajon—had played more than 200 shows around Metro Detroit in various bands.

Steve personally reviews every request and responds within 24 hours.

Questions before you ask about a date

Does COAST play festivals and multi-act events?

Yes. Tell us about the stage, house sound, set length, changeover, credentials, security, and the other performers. Produced events receive a more detailed review than a simple stand-alone public performance.

Can COAST play outdoors?

Yes. Outdoor events need reliable power, a safe and level performance area, shade/weather protection, and an appropriate plan for weather or other disruptive possibilities. COAST will confirm the practical requirements for your setting before the date is finalized. Options for remote power, when out of range of an electrical outlet, can be provided when requested.

Can the event be free to the public?

Yes. Free admission is common for community programming. If there are tickets, donations, sponsorship, or revenue-sharing terms, include that in the request so the quote and agreement match the event.
